Another ten string Mandolin. A custom order for a regular US customer.
The idea is straightforward, to achieve a wide range of notes in the higher register but still have an instrument that is not too awkward to play. I think this will involve a certain amount of thinking and experimenting, particularly with that whole tone step for the bottom string, but it has certain logic, and it was fun to make. The head might look simple now it's been done, but it wasn't easy to work out and I had to make a mock up in softwood to check that it would work. I’m looking forward to hearing some recordings of it. Doesn't it look great?
